Kintsugi bangle – Small
610€
When one wishes to repair a broken object, one usually makes every effort to restore its original appearance, erase all the “injuries”, and pretend that no incident ever happened.
For centuries, Japanese kintsugi master craftsmen have pursued a diametrically opposed approach: by repairing broken ceramic objects with lacquer mixed with precious metal powders, they assume a repair of the object that is visible, following the wabi-sabi philosophy that invites one to recognize the beauty that resides in simple, imperfect and atypical things. Henceforth, breaks are no longer shameful imperfections to be hidden, but a testimony of the object’s past that makes it even more beautiful.
Fascinated by the aesthetics of kintsugi and its associated symbolism, I adapted it into a full metal version, replacing ceramics with solid silver, and the golden lacquer with pure gold.
Like all of my other creations, I make this bangle by hand in my Parisian workshop.
I can make custom kintsugi patterns for this bangle, please contact me if you want me to make a one-of-a-kind design for you.
